Couple of queries...
Why are you hiring a car? Surely the reason determines the choice?
A simple A to B with luggage...hire a load carrier.
Hiring to have fun? Perhaps a Morgan then.
I have hired vans to carry bulk stuff...a Mog is useless as an option!
I hire a car to fill a purpose so for the short time I have it it doesn’t worry me what it is, within reason.
It is nice to try out some cars for their features/toys but learning their use properly takes time.
Hiring could be looked on as an extended test drive so another plus to consider.

Sorry if my heading caused you to be confused.
I hired the Golf as my wife and I had flown to Inverness from Bristol to see her mother. We chose not to drive any of our cars, Morgan included, to Scotland on what would have been a 1900 mile round trip, as we were only up there for two days. Also, the cost was less than the fuel costs, amazingly.
I agree that the hiring of a car is like having an extended test drive, and can be very informative. However, nice though the Golf was, I kept wishing I was driving the Morgan instead of the Golf, given the super roads up there in Sutherland. Of course this would not have been practical as the mother-in law would not have appreciated being strapped to the luggage rack!
The point of my post was essentially to say that for pure driving pleasure and analogue experience, a Morgan, for me, far outweighs all the benefits of a modern car even with all the electronic aids.
