As always, when travelling route planning is key. I took my 7mtr Fiat based motorhome to Cumbria this year with my Plus 4 behind it on a trailer. Absolutely no problems (with the actual towing) and well worth the effort for all sorts of reasons.
The best advice I can give is to buy the best motorhome/hgv satnav you can with the latest updates of course. Then back that up with the latest road atlas and o/s maps. Then research on motorhome/caravan forums asking for advice regarding your chosen route and destination. Check the route via Google Earth then ring up the campsite direct and tell them you will be arriving with a motorome and trailer and ask them to advise on the best approach route.
I did all of the above when going to Ravenglass in Cumbria this year only to find that three different satnavs were trying to send me via an inappropriate route and the campsite advice was not entirely accurate. It was a lovely wooded site but that was the problem, too many trees to be able to reverse a trailer properly when it cannot be easily seen through a small motorhome rear window.
Hope I have not put you off, even without a trailer a motorhome is well worth having and in my opinion you live in one of the best countries in the world to enjoy it.
