UPDATE:
made mine in the shed today and it all fits into the tool box inside the engine bay.
welded tube to spanner.
Cut suitable size and length solid rod to fit into tube and length to fit into tool box.
Also cut extra length of same size tube as welded on the spanner, to slide over solid rod and extend the cranking length to something useful to torque up the wheel nuts.
It all fits into the tool box in its wrappings.
