We have electric gate, much prefer it to manual. The gate is secured shut by an electromagnetic lock, which is extremely secure as long as the power is on.

How we are set up means we have one big gate (width wise) and the first gate fitted was wooden.

However we had a lot of reliability problems as the sheer weight of the gate caused hinge problems and motor strain. We got it changed for wrought iron gate, which, although you can see through it, has given no problems in 10 + years.

We have an annual maintenance contract on the gate which also gives 24/7 call out in case of problems.

Overall I’m a big fan of them..
