With any warranty you must remember they only cover manufacturing and material failure. It sounds obvious, but it trips a lot of people up. Serviceable items, one subject to wear and tear won't be covered.
Another thing to watch for is the servicing intervals. Most aftermarket warranties in my experience demand servicing every 6 months which catches a lot of people out, especially now that cars can go 2 years/20,000 miles.
Finally, don't forget to check the excess per claim, the total claim limit and see if diagnostics are included (unlikely).
Aside from that, they are a good safety net for those on a fixed monthly budget.
