Poke the rod end of the prop into the top(rear when up )of the spring between the back of the spring and the catch itself -- it is a bit of a push, but means the prop is firmly placed and will not come free of its own accord!

Better still, do some measuring, mark with engineer's blue and then gently file down the circumference of the stay end. As Robbie says, it's a bit of a tight fit otherwise but if you do this it should work very well
