Guys, as the OP, this is timely banter. Before reading this last post, I just resurrected an old thread to essentially ask this same question regarding the ECU. If you don't mind, I'll ask it here too as I'm 'cat deep' in winter projects.

Basically, with the cats and baffles removed and the addition of a less restrive intake, is this not essentially a 'homemade' Stage 1 (perhaps a tad louder)? But does the stock, US-spec ECU have enough bandwidth to compensate for the already DOT-mandated lean programming?

If the goal is Stage 2 anyway, say a G56 which includes a remapped ECU, will it play happily with the 'homemade' Stage 1 (and save the cost of Stage 1 pipes)?
