Thanks for the comments both useful and amusing...Ive made a piece of wood for the front cross bar with round groove in top and cut out underneath to locate on the jack. next job is make the same for the back. The front wooden block is about 9 inches long (limited by towing bracket pointing forward)- is that length enough to spread the load on the rear cross member as well? I.e. use the same piece of wood.

PS DaveW seen your rear wooden support with all the rubber pads - very nice - my woodworking skills don't stretch that far.....
