you have to remove it. Really quite simply. The is a pin (you can see it on the last picture immediately behind the roll bar) and a spring clip cotter key below. It then slides backwards to come out. So if you were using it for a long trip, the only stuff you would want in the boot is things you would access at the end of the day. Or you might stash your tools and spare parts in the boot.

I have noticed the pictures make it look like it conforms to the curvature of the body, but it is flat.
