I, too, recommend having a storm cover that covers the bonnet - there is quite a debate about rainwater lying in the spark plug recesses on cars with Ford engines, but on older cars (I have a ‘97 +4 with a Rover T16 engine), there is also the risk of the water getting in to the heater box, and running down into the cockpit through the heater louvres, again, as mentioned already, in this case, marking the leather down the sides of the gearbox tunnel - plus, soaking the carpets in the footwell!
