We’ve recently returned from France. (Montlhery and then Loire Atlantique, then Brittany) we chose to do two days involving the Peage. The first just a few euros from Chartre to Paris, but after leaving Paris, the long haul from Paris to Clisson (south of Nantes). The latter cost about 30 euros for about 260 miles. We considered it money well spent. The roads were excellent and that journey, avoiding tolls would have been just too much for us in one day.
In the great scheme of things; fuel and tolls were a relatively small part of the overall cost of an epic holiday.
