Yep, chaining the muffler down to something and then heating to put a slight bend at the muffle end of the pipe is what I would do. I have done a lot of forging, welding and fabricating of mild steel but never stainless so the concepts are not foreign to me. Look at the ironwork that goes into making a true 18th Century piece of field artillery and you can see the sort of things I have done.

This is the weld that MMC produced and is the one off angle.
