The weather was nice y/day so I suggested we go to Holy Island . It was early last year the last time we walked around the Island .
After a good wander its back to the car for food a bit more walking and a look at our watches and decided to head home as it was getting near 4pm
Pulled up against the railway crossing ( only way back ) . Spotted both side electric gates gates closed and red lights flashing along with 3 cars behind us said June . Then woosh a 125 train shot past heading South at 125mph .
The lights stopped flashing turned to green and the gates started to open , no one coming over , must be time of day as the sea turns to cover the road over to the Island . I started over the track and the lights instantly changed from green to red along with the gates both sides starting to close .June told me later the three cars behind me hit reverse and shot back onto the road from the line as fast as they could .
I did not have time to think it took me back to the time when I loved a rally , my foot hit the pedal with no thought but to get out and off the line at any cost . It hit the sump cover with a wack as I flew over the top of it and was out before the gate got any lower . Then the 125 train went past at full speed 125mph . No time to gulp . But what a close miss faulty lights and gates . I drove to Bamburgh called the AA to look at the sump who put plastic strips on it , just returned from garage AND HAS TO GO BACK TOMORROW . Its taking a while to sink in just how close . We have phoned the rail company and the phone has never stopped . As its not that long ago the same thing happened so they are taking this in deeply . Thank goodness it was not elderly people or a semi disabled person driving . I said to June I think after that I will not be to keen to go again .
