IIRC the dispute was six of one and half a dozen of the other.
Insufficient direction and oversight from head office of the RNLI, with poor communications with the St Helier station, up against a coxswain, who (according to the report into the matter by the harbour master) was overbearing to the point of bullying.
All very unfortunate; I hope that the RNLI have reviewed their process as a result, so that such a situation can not re-occur.
I was pleased that the general public's reaction to the Daly Mail's recent appalling and small minded attempt to

the RNLI was an increase in donations.
