I'm finding this thread fascinating although I really don't 'get it' with regard for expensive watches. The most I've ever paid for a watch is £50 (and I baulked at that), and that's because it tells the time and also tracks step count, heart rate, sleep patterns etc. so I thought it quite useful.
It's similar to the love of old cars in as much as it is the mechanical interface between man and machine. Watches I suppose are male bling and I admit to looking at the back more than the dial as I can admire the movement in all it's glory. A Quartz watch, whilst perfect at what it does, is just to soulless.
I remember watching a chap put together a Zenith at the QP show at the Saatchi Gallery the year before last and found it quite enthralling but then I am a bit weird!!!.
