Speaking of mud guards: I'll be finding me a nice piece of very thick leather, impregnate it with lanolin, and bolt it to the wooden frame behind the rear wheel so mud and stones won't hit the aluminium, denting it to bits.
I seem to recall a pic somewhere of a removable "luggage tray" fitted above the rear wheel that would effectively prevent stones from dinging the bodywork above the tire. Having such a fitted tray would be necessary anyway to protect items stored there.
