A couple of parkway rides come to mind. Head SW to almost NC and then to Galax and back to Floyd on some secondary roads. The other would be to head NE up past Roanoke. There are a couple of wineries on the SW route as well as Mabry mill and the Blue Ridge Music center.
You definitely would not like I77 heading south and down from Fancy Gap.
Camping is available near Floyd. Several forest service grounds on the parkway and this one...
