I'm going to go down the hacksaw blade/ file way of removing the tabs as I don't trust myself with a Dremel in such a small awkward space.

Once I've opened the aperture, I'm hoping that the silicon cover that came with the travel case will hold it snugly in place. However if its too big, then I'm going to use the fabled neoprene around the edges of the aperture to secure the unit.

To allow it to be slid out for charging, I'l probably use a length of nylon webbing strap wrapped vertically around the unit. These will be held in place above and below the aperture with thin velcro strips. As as they're black they should be unnoticeable against the black of the surrounding fascia.
