Those cheapo battery isolator switches are the work of the devil, as suggested in GoMog article and rated at only 60 amps. Consequently I opted for superior BEP versions on my boat electrics installation.



The 701 model above is rated at 275 amps continuous and much higher for cranking - click for info. Not too expensive and readily available at most marine chandelries, there are panel and flush mount versions. Switch knob is removable for security. I use the heavy duty 702 model for domestic and bow thruster batteries though, the latter remotely controlled by master switch at the other end of the boat as the thruster has been known to blow 600 amp fuse when stalled!
