Unlike lots of other towns along the Severn, Worcester was built throughout the centuries by people who realised that there was a river running through the middle of it. It tends to flood several times a year, and apart for a few pubs and businesses on the river front, the residential population tends to come out of it realitivly unscathed, albeit inconvenienced by the road closures.

There were a few house that suffered - the attached photo shows a little cottage on the right hand side which was where my great grandparents lived. He was the boilerman for one of the steam launches (probably the one in the picture - it was called 'Belle'). For those than know Worcester, it's now an outside seating area for Browns restaurant...
