When it was still a hot potato with the diesel gate VW had changed the current production of minibuses (T6? I don't know) and banned all manual transmissions that should have been installed, for exactly the reasons you describe, Alistair, not regarding torque coping but regarding emissions. I know because a friend ordered one with a manual gb which was confirmed but he got an auto in the end.
