Graham. Is the float on your sender positioned correctly? If it is the one with the wire to float design bending it could help.
If it is the type inside a tube (as my 4/4 was) then not sure how much scope there is for adjusting. Perhaps cleaning electrical contacts might help too? Dirty ones increase resistance in the circuit.
