I have the later 4l V8 and that has a cork gasket. I can see some oil seepage but no leak as such. I will replace it at the next oil change.
Tip......there is a warning about oil changes and oil pump issues, see Gomog for details. Essentially don’t leave the engine for an extended time after draining as you then might need to prime the pump due to airlock. I have never had that problem. After the work is done check that you have oil pressure. Remember, Rover V8 ‘s do not go up to 60 psi. Around 40psi or 3 bar is normal but drops at idle. Also don’t overtighten the sump bolts. Use a new crush washer on the drain plug refit. Get everything ready in advance to minimise the time without oil. No need to rush, just be methodical.
