I am fortunate to be short and not need a block under the seat but I did put a block a few inches behind the pedals on the floor to act as a foot rest for the clutch leg. No screws or bolts, just wedged in place and it works fine.
I think you and I are about the same height, I found a 4" cushion really helps me see the front of the car and have a bearing where I am going
