That must be a record. It shows the lack of quality of the new badges through.
I've always suspected that the chrome is a shiny slippery surface that the enamel paint doesn't stick too very well, so not really poor OE quality, just the limit of mass production
If I repainted mine I would slightly rough-up the base areas with a tiny Dremel bit before painting
