Evegeny Lebedev for a Peer of the Realm, I don't think this is what we want. The Lords is supposed to be a place where experts sit and provide sage advice and who temper the excesses of Government.
Ah yes, you are spot on with what the Lords are supposed to be. The reality is somewhat different. It’s a place where cronyism is rewarded, people are rewarded for supporting a political view or financially supporting a party. On one hand BJ is talking about reforming the Lords (so Dominic can push through poor legislation) whilst appointing a Tory supporting Russian (ex?) spy and Evening Standard (well known for being edited until recently by ex Tory Chancellor) owner who also bungs the Tories a few quid, BJ’s brother and Ian Botham FFS.
An independent chamber to scrutinise, advise and amend legislation? I don’t think so.
