Quite a few avant-garde free form jazz musicians try and explore the sounds that both come from the subconscious mind and are interpreted by the listener by doing what visual artists like Jackson Pollock explored on canvas
Creating spontaneous music trying to disengage the conscious mind having pre-learnt and well practiced virtuoso techniques
I always think it’s quite exciting when done in a ensemble though and they can feed off the other musicians
I don’t listen to a lot of it and probably prefer the exploration a little bit melodious by the likes of Cecil Taylor or Ornette Coleman but it’s great to dip into occasionally and listen live
