There is nothing to be adjusted with the easy start (compression release) cams, as they have a simple pivoting mechanism deactivated by centrifugal force once the engine fires and is above about 500rpm.

My car has the same undesirable characteristics on start, but you can hear the compression "leak" afforded by the easy start cams so they are working. I can't imagine how hard it would be to start one of these engines without the easy start feature.

I'm looking at upgrading to the 569 cams (which also have the easy start feature) not so much for performance, but more for the higher overlap they have which can only ease starting.
