Regardless of the rights and wrongs of the legal judgement in any particular case anyone spending that sort of money should have a certificate of originality in writing. At least then there is something to go by if it all goes wrong.

Define "originality" in a 1930 car. Original might mean that the engine has never been taken apart and rebuilt - but how likely is that in a car of the age. Or that it has never had a body part remade after a bang. Or even that is has original tyres - I dont think any of us would expect that but you never know.
If I were the seller of a car like that I would never ever give such a certificate since its a licence to claim.
