Been with my partner 16yrs and we have no intention of getting married. Her brother got married a couple of years ago, and her mum accepted that it was never going to happen with us, so chucked us a couple of grand in lieu of a wedding. We got the bathroom done. Can't remember where I read it, but apparently the amount of money spent on the wedding is generally inversely proportional to the length of the marriage.

'Er indoors and I got hitched in the Registry Office, had a small reception in the local hotel, and honeymoon was 2 days in Wandsworth staying with a mate. Every penny we had went into doing up the house. Never regretted it for an instant.
