Paul, I too had a life long lust for an S1 E type o.t.s. which I finally managed to buy at the London Classic Car show but, I'm afraid for me it was a case of never meet your heros. It went within the year to be replaced by a C type, much more to my liking.
I too am a member of the JEC and agree with your observation, I also belong to the JDC which IMHO is a much better club.
