I assume your rack is an early one with the track rod end coupler Calum? I remember seeing some cars with those track rods but not many. That does look better with a bit more thread engagement. Thanks for the part number info, something else for the next Alternative Parts List update.
It was an early one...but was replaced a couple of years ago after the argument with the tree! Suppose that makes it a new old one. I don't know but have a feeling that although the rack was replaced, the insurance might have only covered the track rod on the side that did the tree surgery so the one that has failed may have been the original, eight year old one.
Are the newer ones stronger?
Not that I know of, just shinier!
