The Stage 1 pipes I had did not have any wadding, rather they had a long conical baffle inside the silencer can with scalloped holes in the wall of the cone so although they are much more free flowing than the standard exhausts they're not actually straight through. Some of the early MMC sports exhausts were I believe straight through and likely were just the current Stage 1 without the baffle. Having heard those early sports pipes in action I wouldn't underestimate just how loud they were...word was that passing Spitfire pilots were complaining about not being able to hear their engines over the racket from the three wheeler.
