Athough on several wiring diagrams, my '72 certainly didn't have a park switch. It may have been a regional variation.
If you have a non ballast coil you won't need the ballast resistor and associated 'bypass' wire for starting.
Might be worth looking at a much later date wiring diagram and doing a comparison?
