JP, if your concern is preservation of the wires, I recommend using one of the bike anti corrosion sprays over winter, or like me use Comma wax seal; whatever wheels you've got they'll get grubby anyway. Definitely check your tyre age and condition. Irrespective of legislation and remaining tyre depth, any tyre older than 10 years shouldn't be on your road wheels, especially in the case of a rear wheel drive Morgan. I suspect my use of the deep tread spare before fitting new rubber, "to get a few miles out of it", which was probably an original Yokohoma factory fit tyre from 2003, contributed to my recent loss of grip whilst cornering. Having been out this morning, I can attest to the dramatic Improvement new rubber contributes, and I wasn't trying to test! I put cross climates on because I know I'll be doing 20-30 thousand miles this year again, and a lot of that in wet conditions close to or below 7 degrees c, and icy roads.
