The fuel tank on my 4/4 Sport also split at high level on the weld joint, which was also caused by pressure problems combined with a weak weld joint on the tank.

Once my tank was replaced by the dealer (under warranty) this caused further pressure issues which resulted in me being sprayed with fuel when I released the filler cap, it was worse when the tank was low on fuel. Some TM’s say a rush of air is normal, however the factory say it is NOT. Slight air release maybe yes, is ok. So my advice is to check that you haven’t also got a similar problem?

The problem was a kink in the line somewhere on my car, and the roll over valve being replaced and repositioned.

This is quite a rare problem (so I’m told) And more problematic on Sport models due to no spare wheel, as the side screen storage tray sometimes obstructs the fuel tank pipes etc.

I’m no mechanic, It’s info received from dealer and factory.
