I agree with Owen's solution:
Several of mine went that way. Welding seemed risky as the metal of the grille is chromed and very soft on my 1996 4/4: it's brass I suspect. Therefore, as the top section of the grille disappears behind the cowl when installed, I carefully drilled a few tiny 3mm holes into the loose bars and fixed them to the frame of the grille using 3mm aluminum blind rivets. Problem solved for a foreseeable eternity - and the fix is absolutely invisible from the outside.
