Is there a special tool to release it on the car to facilitate drum removal?

Can't be seen in the photo but externally there should be an oval shaped rubber grommet you can remove, then just pop in a small screwdriver and just ping apart the pawl, it's spring loaded to retract and back off the shoes...job done !
