The front/rear thing could be misperception. I've had a grinding/rubbing noise from the rear belt during left hand turns. The geometry changes and if the belt is too close it may rub against the tire. Have not had that happen since I've made sure that the belt is as far as I can get from the tire even if it's overhanging the sprocket by a bit.
