Yep ... a Jay .... we're right on the edge of their range here at the top end of Aberdeenshire so they're a rare sighting .... I've only ever seen one locally ... but just down the road in Deeside they're much more often seen. Part of it is their fondness for deciduous woodland which is scarcer up here.
When we were kids they were plentiful on our walks in Epping Forest .... the fabulous blues in the wing flash feathers made those the prize jewels of our childhood feather collections and we'd hunt hard for shed ones. 🙂
