I like the two eared too. Also you have a choice of removal method; at home use the tool, on the road in an emergency whack it with a mallet!
I currently have octagonal. The LH spinner set seem to be a slightly imperfect octagon whereas the RH are fine! Morgan supplied pressed steel spanner does not fit the LH very securely. I have Lionel’s excellent octagon tool which he had to come round to my house with so we could test the clearance so it would work on both sets of the dodgy spinners. Already had one of his tools for our three eared Lotus Elan Sprint wheels.
