I grew up in Welwyn Garden City close to the Great North Road and have clear memories of sitting in The Waggoner's at Ayot Green with lorries and other traffic thundering by just outside the window. Other clear memories include the poplar trees and other landmarks on the drive into London and overtaking in the central lane of the three lane road with cars coming towards you in the same lane.
