We can go back as far as the steering geometry which was an engineering embarrassment until "upgraded" at the customers cost.

Regarding the Centa. Having had experience of flexible couplings, when it was first introduced as an "upgrade" I asked on the forum whether the MMC had given an expected service life and maintenance details.

No one seemed interested at the time which is perhaps understandable as anything seemed better than what went before.

What should have been an acceptable fix has been compromised by (avoidable) poor application. Again.
