As an aside it's not unknown for crank bolt issues with much later models. A local M3WC member had his second new (2018) M3W break down whilst abroad. The crank bolt had come loose and spun out. In his maybe unique case it was because the blind drilling and/or thread in crank was not deep enough to accommodate bolt causing it to bottom out. Although not immediately obvious it was found that no matter what torque was used it wouldn't fully grip the crankshaft pinion.
