One of the factors is that motorists do not know what the different types of Smart Motorway are and how to use them properly
Having spent a fair bit of time on Smart Motorways this weekend (visiting the parents in Worcester) I think the majority of motorists think they should drive permanently in lane 3, even if lane 1 and 2 are empty.
Agree and on the 'All Lanes Running' 4 lane Smart Motorways the extra lane means lane discipline is even worse.
In addition Lorries can legally go ito the 3rd lane of 4 lane Smart Motorways so instead of 2 out of 3 lanes being blocked with Lorries doing the 1mph slow overtake, we now have 3 out of 4 lanes blocked by Lorries doing the 1 mph slow overtake. I dont think the Government had thought that one through.
None of this affects me in the Morgan though. Ive only been on the motorway in it once. To me Motorways are meant for getting from A to B and not for pleasure and I have no intention of going on a Smart Motorway in my Morgan.
