The Roadster had bulging tread strips and I was planning to replace the rusted nuts and bolts exactly as you have.
But with silencers under each side it would have been a difficult job so procrastinated until I bought the Plus 8, it has no tread strips.
I do like John's idea of a strip of doormat, I wonder if one could replace the rubber with a thin strip of rubber backed matting?
