There is only so much they would be able to do without invalidating the ECO (not ) credentials of the car. You have to do a lot (££££) to get a little (hp) on an engine like that. It is already quite highly tweaked with the double VANOS and electronic management etc. It has such a great power curve and throttle response that I feel sad every time I get in a turbo car afterwards even when it has more grunt. I guess that is just what I grew up with so I enjoy it really?
The Mog has 1200kg, 4.8L V8 Petrol Injection and 380bhp/380LbFt and the double vanos camshaft management to build the torque and power.
The AMG ML63 turbo lorry has 2300kg, 5.5L twin turbo V8 with 600+ (mild tune) bhp and 600Lbft of torque most of the way from 1200rpm all the way to 6000rpm.
The MB feels fast but just a bit like a rocket assisted dead cat from the fun point of view. The Morgan comes on cam, changes tune as it revs, needs to be in the power band to pass clearly etc etc. You get to drive the Mog and it sounds like it. Long live sidepipes and deaf policepeople. Bad luck Switzerland. (drive by sound regs)
