Had the drone over surveying for the forestry contractor to put in for the felling licence (seems a cheek to me paying for the licence as they're already lying down!! 🙂) ... some of the damage to the plantation down from the house .... I'm having the contractor clear the blow-downs, reshape the standing-tree areas to minimise future wind damage then take out every sixth row which will allow more light down and strengthen the trees. The one positive thing is it's prodded me into being more proactive with my forest management (as opposed to just wandering through them thinking 'oohhh! What a big tree!' 🙂)

Ps .... going to replant the 'liberated' areas with native hardwoods to bring some variety to the woodland ... we won't see them much past big saplings, but I enjoy walking under mature native trees that other people planted knowing they'd never see them mature, so who am I to break the cycle 🙂
