If you have read any of my rambling, you may know that being on the wrong side of 70 the cold gets to me more than it used to, I suspect medications play their part in thinning the blood to some degree, thus I can not enjoy my Morgan on the colder days and eventually decided to acquire a tin top to continue the enjoyment of sports car driving, given the average weather conditions hereabouts..
Living just outside suburbia there is not even a traffic light between me and interesting country roads, and my favourite circa 70 mile route can be plagued by cyclists, tourists and worst of all tour buses which are really too large for the twistiest and best bit of road, evidence being many deep gouges in the grass on either side of the road on just about every bend, and there are quite a few tight bends..less than ideal to get one`s tyre hooked in any of those..!!!
Given all the above I ever pick the best time to hopefully find the road free and clear. I have in the past recorded vids of my favourite parts, ala Mossy...(-: Though the purpose of my vids is to be able to enjoy my favourite roads while sitting at my computer in the hope that if or when I can no longer drive, I might still be able to drive a computer... (-:
I guess there was a time when younger that an early morning blast was required to blow the cobwebs away on occasion, but these days it seems wiser to enjoy a slightly more relaxed driving style, just a bit quicker than a leisurely drive kinda thing, if you get my drift, and perhaps more so given the surprised wildlife one is likely to come across.
I set off pre-dawn to get to my favourite stretch just as the sun hits the hills, set my GoPro up and had the road to myself.... Jeez, what an absolute privilege to be able to enjoy a bit of early morning driving through wonderful scenery on a twisting, rising and falling ribbon of Tarmac. Had I all the money in the world I could not be happier on such as beautiful morning as I enjoyed this morning, like so many I have enjoyed in times past on my m/cycles, Morgan, or my recently acquired tin top sports car, with the heater on, PDK box, traction control, ABS and all sorts of on board digital decision making, to part make up for the advancing years of the rusty old nut behind the wheel..(-:
I had no trouble slowing down till it got airborne, for a half asleep dove standing in the middle of the road, then a beautiful Pheasant just to the near-side of the road, you never know what direction they might take. A few miles further on and a deer well out of harms way in a gully to the left of the road, decided that it`s safest move was to jump out in front of me and bound over the fence on the opposite side of the road, fortunately just a light dab on the brakes was enough to safe both the deer and I from having an early morning heart attack.... (-:
Rambled on a bit, but I thought to share lest someone somewhere might enjoy a tale of my latest of many early morning drives and perhaps think to emulate it themself ..?
