Received a parcel yesterday that was cleared from customs 5 days previously. It signalled as out for deliver at about 10 am and then that it had been delivered at 10:45.
I made multiple attempts to contact the depot of the Italian post office courier but no one answered the phone.
At 4:45 in the afternoon Alis's daughter who was outside with the dog called out to ask if I was expecting a courier. He was already walking away with the packet in his hand and came back when I called. When I asked why it had been signalled as delivered 6 hours previously it seemed that he had very little Italian (South American at a guess - how they even get an Italian driver's licence is beyond me).
Basically if you pay peanuts you get monkeys! And this is despite a fairly high level of unemployment - it seems that no one but the lowest qualified wants these jobs and they are often taken by migrants on short term contracts. The result of this is that even if they are reasonable they just get to know the run and their contract is terminated so you get another who tries to do the job following Google Maps navigator.
So it is not just the UK it seems to be a universal problem
